Nozstock Festival
Where: Bromyard, Herefordshire
When: 1st - 3rd August 2014
What: A beautifully intimate festival built from "a curious amalgamation of
performance, art, electronic supersounds and good old-fashioned guitar-strumming and drum-bashing"
Info: http://www.nozstock.com/
A truly unique festival, Nozstock has been receiving rave reviews in recent times. This year is already looking superb, despite the fact the full line-up has not yet been released. Among those announced, however, are East London reggae heroes and The Punk Archive favourites The Skints, who will undoubtedly deliver a perfect show for the leafy setting. Alongside The Skints are Molotov Jukebox, who describe themselves as "gypstep", as well as incredible UK reggae band By The Rivers. The festival also has a huge array of DJ and dance acts, while also combining funk, soul and pop with all the above. A truly eclectic festival in an incredible location: what's not to love?
Camden Rocks Festival
Where: Camden, London
When: 31st May 2014
What: A rocking one-dayer across 18 of Camden's finest venues, pubs and clubs...
Info: http://camdenrocksfestival.com/
Last year's Camden Rocks was certainly one to remember, and this year's festival looks to beat that. 2014 delivers a rocking line-up, featuring some of the best punk, rock, metal and alternative music around. Manchester's finest Sonic Boom Six will, as usual, deliver a brilliant set of energetic punk rock, while stand out acts also include The Subways and Hacktivist. However, this is a festival where you need to make sure you look lower down the bill, as you will find some absolute gems. Baby Godzilla, fresh from a stunning set from Takedown Festival, will be tearing up the stage; as will Chasing Cadence and pop-punk upstarts The Hype Theory. We loved seeing Bleach Blood and Colt 45 last year and both bands return to Camden Rocks 2014. Add Attention Thieves, Verses, and Riskee and the Ridicule and you've got a truly brilliant line-up: and all for just £25!
Download Festival
Where: Donington Park, East Midlands
When: 13th - 15th June 2014
What: The UK's biggest metal, hardcore and rock festival
Info: http://www.downloadfestival.co.uk/
A return to form this year from Download, with a mega line-up bringing together some of the world's biggest bands. Seeing Linkin Park tear through classic album Hybrid Theory is going to be out of this world, while Skindred will undoubtedly stun the crowd with their incendiary live show. However, stand out act for 2014 are seminal US punks Against Me!, who will be playing Download for the first time. That's not all, though, as punk stalwarts The Offspring and Bad Religion are both playing the festival alongside the brilliant letlive. and Fall Out Boy. Let's not forget UK rockers Page 44, too, who are playing the festival for the third year on the trot! A massive line-up which will only get better, this is definitely one to go to!
NASS Festival
Where: Bath & West Showground
When: 11th - 13th July 2014
What: An "Action, Sports and Music Festival"
Info: http://www.nassfestival.com/
Here's something different: not only is NASS assembling a stellar line-up of rock and punk acts (as well as some brilliant DJs and hip-hop acts), but also bringing together BMX, skate and in-line international competitions, with some serious money at stake. If it's the music which takes your fancy, you can choose from some incredible acts, too, including the evergreen Funeral For A Friend, ska-punk funsters Reel Big Fish, as well as the harder-edged Gallows, The Bronx and Trash Talk. Sonic Boom Six are also on the line-up here, alongside Yorkshire's finest, Random Hand. One for the extreme sports and music fans, make sure to check NASS out.
Reading and Leeds Festivals
Where: Richfield Avenue, Reading & Bramham Park, Leeds
When: 22nd - 24th August 2014
What: The traditional Bank Holiday weekend rock festival
Info: http://www.readingfestival.com/
If Download's line-up this year is a return to form, then Reading and Leeds' is a return to huge former glories. A genuinely brilliant line-up is complemented by some of the world's biggest bands in Queens of the Stone Age and pop-punk grandfathers Blink-182. The main stage, this year, is packed with punk and rock, too, with A Day To Remember and You Me At Six playing alongside the legendary Jimmy Eat World and melodic rockers Deaf Havana. With the Lock Up stage not yet revealed, this year could be one of the best Reading and Leeds Festivals yet....
Fest 13
Where: Gainesville, Florida
When: 31st October - 2nd November 2014
What: Florida's annual Halloween punk rock festival
Info: http://thefestfl.com/
Quite simply one of the best festival line-ups I have seen so far this year, Fest 13 is due to be an absolute belter. Not only have they got Descendants playing their only Florida show this year, but The Punk Archive favourites The Menzingers and Less Than Jake are also returning to Fest. Minneapolis punks Banner Pilot will also be tearing up the stage, while Canada's finest, The Flatliners are also due to perform. We Are The Union are also reforming for the festival and are sure to play a special set. UK gruff punks Gnarwolves are also playing, alongside tour mates Nai Harvest. Is there a better way to spend Halloween?
Boomtown Fair
Where: Winchester
When: 7th - 10th August 2014
What: A wild weekend of music, partying and the scarcely believable
Info: http://www.boomtownfair.co.uk/
Before last year, Boomtown Fair had always been the festival on the list I wasn't quite able to get to. However, I went last year, and now it is the first festival on the list of ones I NEED to go to. A truly mad place, you have to see the genuine town which is built to believe it. Allied to this, though, is the brilliant line-up every year. This year is no exception, with the mighty Jimmy Cliff, NoFX, and The Wailers all heading up the bill. That is far from all, though, with Sister Nancy, Dawn Penn and the Easy Star Allstars boosting the stellar reggae line-up; while Demented Are Go!, New Town Kings, and Jaya The Cat will also be rocking the main stage. It's an absolutely mad weekend...and one you'd be equally mad to miss!
One Love Festival
Where: Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire
When: 15th - 17th August
What: A brilliant weekend of classic and new reggae
Info: http://www.onelovefestival.co.uk/
An absolutely blinding line-up of reggae old and new for One Love Festival this year. Not only are veteran reggae legends Cocoa Tea and John Holt performing alongside Cornell Campbell and the Gorgon Soundsystem feat. Bunny Lee, but up and coming reggae acts such as The Indecision and Smiling Ivy will also be taking to the stage. A huge number of soundsystems (Saxon, Sir Coxsone and Channel One alongside many others) are also at One Love. Offering some brilliant, brilliant reggae, One Love is definitely one to check out.
