Released digitally on the 12th March and physically on the 14th March, Call It Off have released arguably the best pop-punk EP to come out of Netherlands this year.
Blasting off with Famous Last Words we are hit with infectious bounce, guitar riffs and crisp beats. The vocals are mixed clean, free of unnecessary effects because there is power in those lungs delivering lyrical hooks and a throaty, seductive timbre. It's easy to see why these boys have been supporting the likes of The Story So Far and The Wonder Years.
Burning Bridges is an instant sing along. It's definitely a song engineered around a choral focus and it works. Classic pop song backbone built up with sweet meat punk muscle.
These boys look good, sound good and I am betting they smell good… Even after 45 minutes of tearing up a stage in 30-degree heat…. OK maybe my imagination is running away a little… Still. You get the picture… I'm betting a large contingency of their fan base is very pretty ladies getting sweaty at the barriers. I might join them on their next UK visit!... *daydreams* … No! Back to the review!
I actually can't get over how much of an early Green Day sound these guys have: in the best way possible. Maurice sounds uncannily like Billy-Joe pre-drugs.
Musically Call It Off are tighter than a very tight rude bit and twice as enticing. I was told I was going to like these guys and I wasn't misinformed!
All the songs on the EP are catchy, well structured and executed beautifully. Expertly produced, the sound scape has meant it has a live feel with a polished finish.
I'm a huge Blink and Alkaline Trio fan and this musical piece of cake fits perfectly into my collection. I can strongly recommend you get yourselves a copy.
