Takedown Festival 2014: Preview: Ugly Love

We caught up with Tom from Kent rockers Ugly Love ahead of their set at Takedown 2014...

The Punk Archive: Hey guys, introduce yourselves to our readers?
Tom: We are Ugly Love from Tunbridge Wells, Kent. We play rock music for the weird and horny.

The Punk Archive: Are you excited to be playing Takedown?
Tom: Yes. So excited I might vomit. I've bought some new clothes for the occasion, so that's nice.

The Punk Archive: How would you describe your live show for readers who haven't seen you before?
Tom: Frantic, colourful, funny, energetic and dangerous. We want to be the most fun live band in the UK. We're not far off....

The Punk Archive: You've played with Blitz Kids, FVK and more - are you looking forward to seeing those guys again?
Tom: Seeing FVK again will be good. I like hanging out with those goffs.

The Punk Archive: Who are you most excited to see across the day?
Tom: THE HELL, YOU DICK. Each of us in Ugly Love are incredibly excited about that band. Also Jamie Lenman. Might go stalk him a bit.

The Punk Archive: Your debut single was independently released - talk us through that? Did the fact you released it independently make it more satisfying?
Tom: I suppose it was satisfying, yeah. But it's not like we're ever going to lie around and wait for someone to do all the hard work for us. Releasing it independently is the only option we have at this point. Besides, we're massive control freaks so I think even if we were in a position to throw corporate dollar around we'd do our own videos, artwork and so on. That's the way I think it should be for all bands anyway.

The Punk Archive: What does the rest of 2014 bring for you guys?
Tom: A lot more fun. The busier the band gets, the crazier the rest of life gets. That's everything from time in the van to getting into trouble after the shows. We're a rock and roll band.

Oh and more of that 'music' stuff too...I guess.

Ugly Love play The Punk Archive sponsored Takedown Festival on Saturday 15th March. Head to http://takedown.vticket.co.uk/ for tickets.
