It's nigh on impossible to select three bands 'to watch' from a line-up as strong as Takedown's. It's easy to be drawn to the bands later on the bill, and miss those earlier. Here, I've purposely chosen to pick three incredible bands from the earlier timeslots...
Band: Skarlett Riot
Stage: Total Rock
Time: 16:30
It's quite simple. Skarlett Riot are a band on a massively upward trajectory. Latest single Tear Me Down is a straight-up belter, one of the most accessible and catchy tracks I've heard so far this year. Skarlett's voice treads a brilliant line between Jenna of Tonight Alive, Hayley Williams and Amy Lee, while the driving, sharp rock music behind her offers brilliant eddies of aggression. Having already received rave reviews across the music press, this is a band not to be missed.
Band: A Tale of Two Cities
Stage: Southampton Music
Time: 18:25
Another band hailing from the apparently limitless seam of UK melodic rock at the moment, A Tale of Two Cities add a certain edge to the furrow well-ploughed now by Mallory Knox et al. Combining an undoubtedly punkier edge with the rock goodness, ATOTC nevertheless offer slick melodies and catchy choruses. A hugely energetic band, make sure you check them out. You won't be disappointed.
Band: Octane OK
Stage: Big Deal Clothing
Time: 14:40
With debut album Face The Facts release only just around the corner, these Birmingham lads deliver a stunningly catchy and assured brand of pop-rock with melodic and emotional elements. This is a band who know how to write a stonker of a song, with both Survive and Fly Again offering huge choruses, huge singalongs, and huge melodies. Reassuringly simple and honest music, Octane OK are likely to hit the big time this year. Make sure you're on board.
Alongside the three bands above, don't miss Ghouls' infectious ska-punk; I Divide's deliciously soaring melodies; Canterbury's pure brilliance, and Hacktivist's incredible energy.
The Punk Archive sponsored Takedown Festival takes place on Saturday 15th March. Head to http://takedown.vticket.co.uk/ for tickets.
