Preview: The Fest 14: Wonk Unit

We caught up with Alex from London punks Wonk Unit ahead of their Fest 14 appearance...

The Punk Archive: Introduce yourselves to our readers?
Alex: We are Wonk unit from London. We write super catchy, well crafted songs relating to everyday life. We don't take ouselves seriously but we take our music very seriously.

The Punk Archive: Are you excited to be playing Fest? Have you played in the US before?
Alex: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaagh is the answer! It's the best thing ever to be in the US! Sun is shining, junk food is delicious and people are polite! Fest is gonna be the raddest! We'll stick out like a sore thumb! We can't wait to make a million new friends and I'm hoping to wear shorts!

The Punk Archive: What can Fest-goers expect from your live show?
Alex: A friendly atmosphere, the sexiest dancing, the silliest chaps, the punkest punk! We are truly the working man's punk rock without the macho bullshit.

The Punk Archive: Who are your biggest musical influences?
Alex: I dunno. I don't really listen to other people's music, only my own when I'm writing songs. I don't do background music. My brain overloads...

The Punk Archive: What's next for Wonk Unit?
Alex: After our three weeks in the States promoting the Pwosion Idea LP (Drunken Sailor records) we go back to the UK for a massive tour with Slaves. This is to coincide with the CD release of Pwosion Idea and the re-release of our debut album Flying The Japanese Flag on vinyl (on Manchester label TNS Records). In December, Wonk's own Skateboard company Cement You C*nt Records And Skates put out it's first board with the now semi-legendary "Dinosaurs Are Wankers" graphic. Our fifth album Wonk Unit - For Sex (working title) is due out sometime in 2016.
