The Punk Archive: Hey guys, are you excited to be playing The Fest?
Jonathon: Extremely! It's definitely my favourite music festival to be at/play!
Jonathon: I played acoustically last year at the CMC, and it was awesome. The year prior I attended Fest. I didn't officially play, but I may or may not have gotten to perform at a 2am 'secret show' with some really awesome bands.
The Punk Archive: We've not been before: what should we expect?
Jonathon: You should expect to walk around a lot, in an atmosphere vaguely similar to a less congested Warped Tour, for an older punk crowd. There's so much going on. Downtown Gainesville is covered in awesome venues, food spots, and coffee shops. Whether you're watching a band, walking around, or grabbing a bite to eat, it's ALL a blast. The vibe in the streets of Gainesville is so positive. Everyone is friendly, and mostly everyone is drunk! After the usual schedule of bands is over for the night, there's typically a handful of secret house / venue shows going on around the city. The Fest itself doesn't endorse these shows, so they're on the very down low, but there will usually be a buzz going around. I'd highly recommend trying to attend one of those shows so you get the full experience.
Jonathon then picked out his top ten bands not to miss...
Tiny Moving Parts: Incredible band, incredible people. We were lucky enough to tour with those guys and we fell in love with them.
Foxing: Just amazing. Don't question it, just make sure you see them.
Frameworks: They're just a really, really cool band. Gainesville natives who play a unique blend of stylistic screamo. Their shows at Fest always reach max capacity so wait in line early!
Into It. Over It.: Fest favourite. Probably the band I would go out of my way to see the most. Evan Weiss is just an incredible songwriter, and he is a huge influence on my songwriting. IIOI is a must.
Rozwell Kid: A must-see set for anyone who digs rock'n'roll, Weezer, and catchy music.
The Dirty Nil: I caught this band on tour with Single Mothers a few months ago and they're phenomenal. Hard hitting rock'n'roll with a really charismatic front man. Super fun to watch.
Loma Prieta: I've always wanted to see this band and I never have. Super abrasive and sometimes very pretty sounding punk rock. Super cool band.
The Menzingers: SO FUN to see them live. Super catchy, PBR chugging soundtrack. One of the best vibes of the whole weekend.
Pet Symmetry: This band is a mix of Into It. Over It. and Dowsing. It's an awesome blend of power pop and big choruses.
Echo Base: Long time friends of mine who play ridiculously good two-piece emo music. So happy to see them on the line-up.
