Preview: The Fest 14: Editor's Picks

Our Editor Dan Stoten has picked the bands you can't afford to miss at next weekend's Fest 14...

It's pretty impossible to choose bands not to miss at Fest 14: the sheer number of bands and vast array of talent on display makes it an impossible task. It's with difficulty that I've picked the below...

Andrew WK: Having seen a triumphant performance from the Party Hard songwriter, it's easy to imagine he'll provide another brilliant set in Florida, showing there's more to him than just the aforementioned anthem...

The Menzingers: One of the best bands in the world right now. Still riding on the success of their latest album Rented World, The Menzingers have a hugely appealing humility alongside their brilliant downbeat punk rock. Live, they're a similarly stunning proposition, and not to be missed.

Teenage Bottlerocket: Simple, addictive, catchy punk rock. What more do you want?

Mustard Plug: One of the best-kept secrets of the ska-punk scene, Mustard Plug are a brilliantly upbeat and catchy band. Guaranteed skanking...

Off With Their Heads: If you like your punk rock gritty and melancholic, with plenty of melody and singalong choruses, then you'll love Off With Their Heads. A band I've seemingly managed to miss every tour of, I can't wait to catch them in Florida.

The Hotelier: A band many are falling over themselves to wax lyrical about, they've been on various tours over the last year. See if they're deserving of the hype...

Banner Pilot: Another band delivering melodic and gritty punk rock, but with a handful of pop-punk scattered in for good measure. Another hugely underrated band in the UK, theirs will be a soaring, melodic set.

The Copyrights: As with Teenage Bottlerocket, The Copyrights will give a set of fast, simple pop-punk. Grab a beer and get ready to bounce!

Astpai: A band I've seen a number of times before, including seeing a sensational set at Belgium's Groezrock Festival. They have the rare ability to properly capture an audience, and should not be missed.

Captain We're Sinking: Choppy, pitchy noisy punk rock. They'll be playing a late night / early morning set, so will keep you going throughout the night!

Teen Agers: A hugely underrated band, Teen Agers' I Hate It album was one of my favourite records of 2014. Menzingers-esque punk rock, they're a band I've wanted to see for a considerable time.

Counterpunch: Hugely punchy melodic hardcore punk in the vein of Rise Against, Counterpunch are hard-hitting and in-your-face. A great way to let off some steam!

The Red Owls: A new favourite following our review of their latest EP Do You Feel Any Better?, we're excited to see if they can replicate their brilliant recorded sound live.
