Interview: Natty

We caught up with reggae artist Natty following the release of his new single Gaia...

The Punk Archive: Hey Natty, how has your 2015 been so far?
Natty: Give thanks. It's been a good year.

The Punk Archvie: Did you have a good summer? What were your highlights?
Natty: Yeah, had a great summer. Highlights were playing Main Stage at Secret Garden Party, finally  releasing Gaia and my TV appearances.

The Punk Archive: Talk to us about Gaia: how was the writing and producing process?
Natty: I started writing it in Africa, in the desert after meeting spiritual leader Credo Mutwa, then went to Jamaica got the inspiration to finish it in a Rasta camp I was staying. Producing it, we tried a couple of options before recording it all with the band organically and overdubbing necessary parts. I got a great band so recording it was a vibes!

The Punk Archive: Prince Fatty has remixed Gaia for you, too. What was it like working with him?
Natty: He actually mixed my first album so he's a good friend and we've done much work together. So working together is something natural between us.

The Punk Archive: Your new record is out in early 2016. Can you give us any pointers as to what we should expect?
Natty: It's a concept album I have been working on for years so listen on good speakers!

The Punk Archive: Where did your inspiration come from for the new record?
Natty: Many inspirations over the many songs but mainly the awakening consciousness of these times.

The Punk Archive: UK reggae is a pretty active scene right now. Why do you think that is?
Natty: The public are tuned into the positive message in reggae music. Like in the previous answer. Couple that with the weakened grip the major labels have on the record buying public...

The Punk Archive: What and who else have you been listening to from the UK scene?
Natty: Bongo Kanny, Subajah, The Rasites, Gentleman's Dub Club and more...

The Punk Archive: What does the rest of 2015 hold for you?
Natty: Mastering my album, putting out some more music. Possibly a few more shows. Loving the good life making music and giving thanks.
