Interview: Vivid Nation

Following the release of debut EP Open Your Mind late last year (reviewed here http://thepunkarchive.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/vivid-nation-open-your-mind.html), we checked in with VIVID NATION for an update...

The Punk Archive: Introduce yourselves to our readers?
VIVID NATION: The four of us: Rhys Taylor (Vocals / Guitar), Luke Welch (Lead Guitarist), Jason Dean (Bass) and James Flury (Drums) make VIVID NATION. We come from Kent and are an alternative / progressive rock band.

The Punk Archive: Why the name, VIVID NATION?
VIVID NATION: We wanted to go with something that had body and meaning. VIVID NATION is an abbreviation of 'vivid' and 'imagination' (in which to have a creative mind).

The Punk Archive:What influences your song writing?
VIVID NATION: We take strong influences from musicians such as Bob Dylan, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Moore, Muse, Biffy Clyro, and Twin Atlantic.

The Punk Archive: How has the response been to the EP?
VIVID NATION: Well, the EP has been released for just over a month now and we have some lovely reviews saying some super kind things, and some really good ratings which has been a great confidence builder for us as a band. The release itself was just bliss. It was humbling to have such support, but also bittersweet with it being so close to a sell out show. There was a cap of 400 on the venue, and we had 383 people through the door. Bittersweet, but nonetheless brilliant.

Couldn't have asked for more. Other than another 17 people.

The Punk Archive: Sum up your 2013 for us?
VIVID NATION: Our 2013 consisted of a consistent amount of new experiences for us, such as recording our debut EP, our first official music video, touring places we've never played before, working with some really influential people, and topping it off by having such a great response to our EP at the end of the year.
I don’t believe we could have asked for more so early on as a band, and we cannot wait to see what we can do more of in 2014.

The Punk Archive: You've got a new video coming out soon - who comes up with the ideas for the videos?
VIVID NATION: Well the video concept for Open Your Mind was scripted by the Director, Daniel Broadley after we had spoken and had him listen to the track. We wanted to take his interpretation of the track, and build it around that, instead of creating a direct reflection of the song. We felt it would give the song a much better chance of allowing the listeners a chance to build their own interpretation of the track.

Open Your Mind is available now.
